1999 Summer Student Program

We are proud to participate in several NASA programs including NASA Academy and The Summer High School Apprentice Research Program (SHARP). These programs are designed to encourage students to cultivate an awareness of career opportunities in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology and to develop leadership and research skills in aeronautics and space science.

Student levels range from high school through university. They are assigned as interns at Goddard Space Flight Center where individual engineers or scientists actively mentor the students throughout their internship. Students are assigned to a variety asks based upon their interests and skill levels, These range from working in laboratories doing electronic device characterization, assisting in equipment tests, to updating web pages. This past year, student projects have included work on the Hubble Space Telescope's NICMOS cryocooler and Wide Field Camera 3 and the TopHat ballooning program.

Our 1999 summer students were invigorating and productive members of our team, contributing their creativity, enthusiasm and energy to our projects. We look forward to the summer of 2000 and to our next group.
