what is a ccd :: picture elements or “pixels”

Almost all modern imaging devices work by dividing an image into many small elements called picture elements or “pixels”. The information for each pixel represents the image brightness (and maybe color and/or other information) for a specific location in the image. Thus, the entire image can be viewed as a large collection of pixels.
